Lines Of Color

THIS PHOTO, BY CARL LARSON, LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING DONE IN PHOTOSHOP, but it’s actually much more interesting than that.

If you look closely at the right side of the photo, the stripes of color are actually three-dimensional tubes, and that they’re not all the same distance from the camera.

The right side of the photo is the Le Moretti installation at La Defense, Paris. It’s a huge building-sized cylinder with tubes of different thicknesses and colors all around the outside.

The left side of the photo is an apartment building behind the installation, its windows reflecting the colors from the structure.

I absolutely love this photo, so much so that I’d hang it on my own wall. The three-dimensionality of the photo is fascinating, especially because it appears so flat upon first glance.
