THE STARBUCKS BLONDE CAFFÈ LATTE IS YOUR MOST BASIC MILK-AND-BLONDE-ESPRESSO OPTION on the new Starbucks Blonde Espresso menu.

Let’s start with Starbucks’ description of the Blonde Caffè Latte:

“Our seriously smooth and subtly sweet Starbucks Blonde Espresso is balanced with steamed milk and a light layer of foam.”

 My Recommendation

I recommend getting any and all hot Starbucks milk-and-espresso beverages with breve and extra shots of espresso. Your milk choice is especially important in this drink, because it is one of only two ingredients, the other obviously being espresso. What I’m saying here is: Get something richer than the standard 2% milk.

This drink is just milk and espresso, so tread lightly with additional shots. That being said, the Venti size, especially, contains a lot of milk, so you might want to add a shot or two to prevent your Blonde Espresso flavors being too muted. Get to experimenting.

 My Experience

If I had tried this drink before I the Blonde Flat White and the Blonde Cappuccino, it would have been more interesting. Instead, it revealed to me why Starbucks has those other drinks on the menu. For me, at least, they’re just better.

While not as one-note as a normal Caffè Latte, this drink lacks the textural depth of its fancier counterparts. That textural depth (foam) in the Flat White and the Cappuccino help to bring out a few of the subtler Blonde Espresso flavors that the Caffè Latte does not.

 Verdict

This drink isn’t bad, but it’s not the Blonde-Espresso-and-milk beverage you should be getting from Starbucks. Get the Flat White. It’s funny how different two drinks with the same ingredients can be, but that’s why Starbucks has given us options.

The Blonde Vanilla Latte, however, was fantastic, which makes me wonder: How much better would a Blonde Vanilla Flat White be? I’m going to have to find out.
