Things are coming to a head in The Punisher. I think this show is well-paced. Netflix didn’t have any long periods of inaction, and they didn’t go crazy with unrelenting action. But this episode is action-packed. One of Senator Ori’s Anvil guards hears a knock on his apartment door. Lewis’ voice calls, “New York Bulletin.” The guard says from the other side of the door, “I don’t need a subscription.” and incautiously walks right up to the peephole. Lewis shoots him in the face...

I know what “Front Toward Enemy” means from reading action novels. There’s going to be some real opportunities for death and destruction in this episode for sure. Dinah is still in shock. Things are heating up in this Netflix series. Once again, the episode begins with running water, but this time it’s a far cry from Lewis washing his bloody hands and face in the sink. It’s Billy Russo beginning his daily hygiene routine. Russo uses sprays and creams to get his hair just so. He shines his shoes and gets his whole wardrobe exactly right. This episode has a ton of action. And we see the way the Lewis storyline is going, and it’s pretty disturbing. Lewis is washing O’Connor’s blood off himself in a sink. He uses his very bloody hand to wipe his face and mouth. That’s super gross, Lewis. Come on. Of course, he did just murder someone, so I suppose a lack of hygiene is hardly his biggest problem. Important things happen, but overall this episode gives us a breather. I like a show that gives me a change of pace. When the real action starts up again, it’s much more meaningful. In a weird fever dream, Castle is being welcomed home by his family and David Lieberman’s family, but they’re all in David’s home. I’m really liking the unpredictability of The Punisher and the other Netflix Marvel shows. I’m used to cues and tropes showing me where the plot is going. Those are pretty absent from this show. Generally speaking, that’s a sign of a good show. Unlike most plots on TV, Netflix is taking their time and letting this story develop at its own pace. This is a show that just gets better as it goes. I’m becoming more invested in this show than I expected. Lewis, who almost killed his father accidentally last episode because of his severe PTSD, digs a giant foxhole in his backyard. He rings it on three sides with sandbags, and half covers it with a tarp. With his assault rifle next to his head, Lewis covers himself with a blanket and goes to sleep.
